The world is running out of 100-year-old trees. Whenever possible I will source the materials I use from dead or storm damaged trees that need to be cut down. I will also recycle hardwood trim, flooring as well as solid wood furniture.
My turnings are mostly segmented, this will provide the best yield of the materials that I have on hand as well as being able to create beautiful patterns. Segmented turnings are very labor intensive as each piece has to be cut precisely and glued into a ring and then the rings get glued into a stack. The blank created is already hollow, this greatly reduces waste. There can be hundreds of pieces in any given item.
